You play as a squire to a nicely written knight and grow up alongside the protagonist's best friends.

This one was a breakthrough in medieval fantasy knight CYOA games, because the immersion breaking "Great Noble Patriotic War© To Save The Kingdom™" plot found in nearly all other such games happens somewhere in the middle, and doesn't kick the character driven plot aside.
That alone deserves 10 stars!
