Dao Ascension's public callout should be the norm

The other day Dao Immerser was memed on the HG sub for locking his content behind a patreon for months. Something that breaks CoG's publishing rules

Within a day Immerser made a public apology and posted everything behind their paywall. Honestly I can't blame them for the fսckսp. Shіt, the rule is so far down the page I have to scroll to see it.

Either way I'm fed up with all these patreons and now someone said a few WiPs have completely moved behind a paywall. Do we have a list of these?

Someone should make a list tbh. It's getting ridiculous, and it's obviously not being enforced.
Hardly anything is ever enforced in those forums relating to authors tbh, and I understand since writing ifs is super ****ing tedious but like, it gets super ridiculous sometimes like with literally all of Mind Blind for example.

What happen to mind blind?

Alot of authors do that on the site frankly it's really annoying add defiled hearts to this list they literally only give stuff to paying people that should have been public released already

Literally could only get the new content by people sharing it on here alot of wips are doing this it's completely ridiculous to be fair you can only get the new content by subbing and they haven't given a public update in forever.

You can probably easily find other culprits by browsing it doesn't take long to find

That's why I hate the forums you can't critique any author, say anything against them, ask if stuff is still be worked on without being absolutely flammed for it they put authors on pedestals especially the ones with the popularity wips and don't even get me started on the *** kissing they give other authors if you hate something that was written I've been on the forums for years some get away with saying the most outrageous stuff and others get warnings for barely doing anything.

Authors are humans too they should be allowed to be given feedback if they can't handle it they shouldn't make a book in the first place.

I agree, but I also think the forum is in a weird place currently where their is too much happening at once for the mods to actually try to and figure out how to moderate the situation in a way that is both fair for authors and consumers, imo the two biggest issues in the forum is author's paywalling their content and AI, in the past week two different authors had to speak out about the hate they received for using ai or being accused of it. Anyways my point is- is that the forum has too much **** going on and I don't think we'll see any changes with the paywall situation anytime soon.

Honestly, I'm feeling like biting the bullet and actually bringing this rule, and it's lack of enforcement in the COG forum proper, even if I'm probably gonna attract some entitled writers and readers who think that rules shouldn't apply to them.

They get around this rule by having their Patreon demo built in Twine rather than Choicescript - it sucks but I think because of this loophole nothing can be done about it on COG's end :(
tbh it's quite smart, they come over with their demo built on choicescript, and post it on the forum, build a tight-knit community on the forum and then dip to twine with their tight-knit community following over to patreon and tumblr without ever intending to publish to HG, its basically free advertisement.

Was doing some research for my post and came across this post from this year March. They really are selectively enforcing the rule.

Kingdoms and Empires have been pretty much Patreon only since July, and that's a popular IF. What's the point of the rule if no one is going to enforce it because it's too much work?
Nobody called him out for that? smh I swear those money hungry authors and the weak enforcers

The thread got locked in October for inactivity, Either he's one of those authors they admitted looking the other way on, or they really only care about things when they're being forced to address it because of an influx of reports (see: Aura Clash).

Did anyone mentioned Shepards Of Heaven? That author is a joke, some months ago she was having the game on ChoiceScript and public demo was like 300,00 words while the patreon alpha build was like 900,00 words? the public demo didn't get a updated since 2021, for whole 4 years i'm not joking, nobody called her out on this, and then this year dashingdon server got down and every author had to move the game to CogDemos and she decided to move the whole game to a new engine, Twine, and now the game is hosted on Itch.io, and well, now people can't call her out anymore bc now she can do this properly.

now with the twine move, she updated the public demo to 460,00 words but the patreon one is at the moment at 1,379,00 words lmaoo, well, a girl gotta make her own money somehow i guess lol

i'm not gonna lie, she is really good at writing, is very dedicated to the game but having more than 600,00 words behind a patreon for sure did make her get a ton of money (more than 1,200 paying members! at the moment!) i mean, she literally get a whole orchestra and a professional musician to get a exclusive soundtrack to her game once she move the game to twine, she is now one of the most successful (in terms of both money and popularity) IF writer, along with the author of Wayhaven Chronicles, you actually CAN'T enter the IF community without hearing about Shepards Of Heaven and Wayhaven Chronicles!

i'm actually somehow both mad and shocked that this was going on for YEARS and nobody batted a eye, specially considering that the game was and still is pretty popular and you tell me that none of the mods did see this? hmmm....

(pls anyone correct me if i'm wrong about something here)

I just remembered Golden Rose author? Which the Book 2 is at Chapter 4, with like 200,00/300,00 words, i think? But have no public demo lmaoo, authors are for SURE pretending they didn't see this rule huh?

CC Hill too, mostly content is behind patreon

(i'm also subscribed to a patreon of a author i really like that's doing a rework of her first book but she posted on patreon that she would like to post a public update every 3 months, to make "sure" everything is "well and non-bugged" which is just a excuse for me, how can i tell her about this ChoiceScipt rule without sounding like a dick lol

Shepherds author had a agreement with cog, she paid them to not have to release her game content to the public. Idk if others authors also have this agreement
