  • As an old reader, back in the days of the great tournament, I can confidently say that choice of games and hosted games just isn't what it used to be. Sure it's been in the decline for some years now, but right now, it's just downright horrible.. Stories like path of martial art and aura clash having potential, but would rather be a famous wip forever, with their Patreon account and all, which, honestly, no one really cares about anymore, rather than be released. Sometimes I just want to quit the whole thing, but being an old reader, remembering when I use to read "Hero rise, the Prodigy" in my grandma's house. I always find myself going back, but quickly disappointed by the quality of stories I see. It's really sad, like seeing a huge part of your childhood going down the drain, turning into something else. Honestly, the only story I really care about a bit now is the zombie exodus series, which honestly doesn't even feel the same when I read the new updates.

While I do agree with most of what you said. But for WIP section you literally chose 2 stories with arguably most active authors, especially aura clash.
That's the thing, because of Patreon they're going to milk it being a WIP for as long as possible and not just release the game

And let's not forget that the Aura Clash author himself is only encountering development walls because he was alienated by CoG mods and banned from the forum for horsing around on his own discord?!?! Trying to sterilise an author's own unaffiliated discord is a massive overreach by CoG and they were completely in the wrong. I remember the day he was banned and aura clash posts in the CoG forum were systematically deleted, and aura clash fans purged when they exercised their 1A rights for despicable fascistic reasons: disputing the CoG mods.
Same thing with James Shaw, author of the Relics of the Lost Age HG series, silenced and banned from the forum for calling out CoG staff for blatant nepotism (Sins of the Sires is worst WoD by magnitudes, so bad it makes Wang's Homeless Simulator look like Hungry Names by comparison, and wouldn't have merited a Nebula Award nomination if the author didn't have industry connections). This post explains the situation in detail: https://choiceofmods.com/threads/choice-of-games-drama-part-2.672/
In other words, CoG doing literally everything over the years to drive away talented HG authors and hasten their own decline (they don't need the starving artist HG plebeians right? Their milquetoast ideologically-captured CoG writing staff are good enough to create cult classics and capture the market right?). They're honestly the worst possible company to gain a large market share over the IF market and I honestly believe they might file for bankruptcy in two years or so, from the writing on the wall.

First of all "Werewolf book of hungry names was just UNDERWHELMING. A perfect example in the writing world that quantity isn't indeed quality. Tried so hard to get into it, cause it was much and I like my stories long, but it just lacked flavour.like eating a big-a.s.s food with no salt or taste. You eating the food alright, but you just not enjoying it. I also knew there was some kind of civil war going in in the choice of games and hosted world, but I didn't know it was this bad. No wonder everything is falling apart. Honestly there might come a time, I would just stop reading these games, I am already super selective on the ones I pick and read, being an OG reader, that just can't enjoy most of these corny, slice of life, romance stories coming out lately. And if not for this choice of mods. I just might have stopped reading them a long time ago.

Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure CoG grew in spite of its management not because of it. but damn do they do some unprofessional **** sometimes. If you know anything about poison_mara then you know how much they hide for people they like.

Hungry Names was a milestone of declining quality on CoG's race to rock bottom; a symptom, in that was still comparatively better than anything that came after it, sad as the implications are. I wished it ended 700k earlier, and wasn't arguing ecoterrorism as a viable solution to growing industry.
Yeahhhh good thing CoM exists. We get to read these games while paying them exactly how much they're worth. Eat my *** hustler_two/meltingpenguins 😉

Unsure if I should be posting here personally but as a whitepill, I am indeed trying to publish, I have more books planned in the same verse so I don't need to avoid publishing to keep my patreon.

I likely should have changed events so there's more closure when you get to the city, like replace the Daichi fight with a fight to free your siblings and close book 1 there, but it's my first time writing so mistakes are made. Spent July-October making the new twine framework and converting the game and November-now writing up 70k words for chapter 9. Fingers crossed for a good full chapter in March/April and apologies for the delay.

Kind of a weird ask but why arent you using the choicescript clone instead of porting to twine? (Assuming you wrote aura clash)

It didn't work the way I liked (missing radio buttons was a huge letdown) so I made my own. It doesn't hurt that Twine's Sugarcube 2 cookbook has a built in save and export/import feature, plus it enables all sorts of javascript functions and API calls so I can customize it any other way for future authors requesting features.

Making radiobuttons work myself and having them append new content to the targeted passage (unless the content of the choice has navigation at its end) was a pain but I got it working. You can see the free version here:

www.auraclash.com/adventure

The ch8 version is available on patreon to Free tier so I can mention that too without advertising which I assume is against a rule, but in the future the patreon version won't be free so I felt it best to only link the free one.

I did know there was indeed some technical and coding work to writing, it isn't just the stories that's involved. But know that what you got (Path of martial arts and aura clash) is a gem in this new age of trash writing and mediocre works in the hosted games and choice LLC world. A glimpse if not a bit of an upgrade in its own way to how the original OG stories used to be, And we, especially the old readers before Patreon was even a thing over here, are super interested in it, but with how long it's taking, the whole thing was beginning to look a bit too long and like something else, therefore interest being lost and lost, until it's almost nonexistent. But the interest is still there, like that dim light that can never be quenched, so please get things round up, and give us this much awaited gems you got fully released. We appreciate the good work. Keep it up, mate.
